Salix purpurea 'Dicky Meadows'

‘Dicky Meadows' is known for being one of the most popular basket willows. It is a vigorous grower producing many beautiful, straight, slender and fine rods. The rods are light green when fresh, light green with some brown when dried. Each plant has a beautiful upright shape and makes an elegant hedge. ‘Dicky Meadows' produces many rods each season, making it ideal for weavers and artisans. Once established and with annual coppicing, ‘Dicky Meadows' produced an abundance of straight, slender rods 5-8’ in length.

Dried rod color: Light green with some brown

Uses:

  • Valued by weavers and artisans for its many slender and flexible rods of beautiful, rich color

  • A favorite for fine to medium basketry

  • Elegant shape and lovely color throughout the year

  • Beautiful for medium sized fedging

On our farm, we enjoy a special planting of two ‘Dicky Meadows’ hedges, as a thruway between our raised beds and our orchard. It brightens our day just to stroll through its beautiful, elegantly slender and tall stems, especially when they are swaying in the wind!
