Ours is a cultivar from Dunbar Gardens, Mt Vernon, WA, originating in Canada. It’s summer structure and deep burgundy color stems, fall through winter, is one of the popular reasons for planting ‘Hutchinson’s Red’ — Beauty throughout all seasons.
‘Hutchinson’s Red’ stands out in mass plantings or when paired with high-contrast varieties like ‘Jagiellonka’, ‘Jaune de falaise’, ‘Light Dicks’, and ‘Britzensis’. For a subtle gradient of colors, consider combining it with ‘Daphnoides’, ‘Dark Dicks’, ‘Jagiellonka’, or ‘Dick Meadows’.
